Finding Solace in the Pages: My Burnout Recovery Journey

Burnout is a word that is all too familiar to many of us. It’s that feeling of exhaustion, both physically and emotionally, that can leave us feeling drained and unmotivated. As someone who has experienced burnout firsthand, I know how difficult it can be to pull yourself out of that dark place. But through my journey of recovery, I found solace in the pages of books. My Personal Battle with Burnout

My personal battle with burnout was an emotional and mental rollercoaster. There was a phase in my life when I found myself continuously immersed in work without any pauses, both mentally and physically. I turned to exercise as a means to manage the overwhelming stress I faced, yet it resulted in a routine of exercising every day on top of dedicating 60-70 hours weekly to work. I struggled to separate my professional and personal life, quickly becoming my own worst enemy.

During the time period of my highest level of stress and burnout, everyone around me could see that I needed to change my lifestyle (well, actually I just needed to quit my job and find a new career path). My friends and family were the first people to notice I was in over my head with stress and responsibilities. My boss and coworkers then began to notice as my fuse continued to shorten. I was encouraged to take time off, but we all know how hard that is when you have a million things that need to get done.

Turning Point: Seeking Refuge in Literature

In the midst of my burnout, I stumbled upon a quote that said, “A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies…The man who never reads lives only one.” It struck a chord deep within me, and I decided to seek solace in reading. Through books, I discovered a newfound sense of peace and clarity, ultimately becoming a turning point in my recovery journey.
