I wanted to create a healthier lifestyle for years, but I didn’t know how. Working full time, having a social life, and just trying my hardest to make it through each day, I wasn’t sure if I could stick to it even if I started one. But I knew it was time for a change, and I had to start making improvements, even if they were small.

However, living a healthy lifestyle doesn’t have to be complicated. Even minor changes to your daily routine can significantly improve your overall well-being and health. Here are five simple changes I made to start living healthier today

1. Drink More Water

Drinking enough water is essential for maintaining good health. It helps to regulate body temperature, transport nutrients, and flush out toxins. Aim to drink at least eight glasses of water daily, even more if you’re physically active. I bought a Stanley tumbler and it has helped me stay hydrated! I love this water bottle because it is always keeping my drinks cold.

2. Eat More Clean Foods

Eating a balanced diet high in whole foods can improve your health in many ways. Whole foods are nutrient-dense and provide your body with the vitamins, minerals, and fiber it needs to function optimally. Add more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins to your diet.

3. Move Your Body

Regular physical activity is vital for good health. Exercise can help you maintain a healthy weight, boost your mood, and reduce your risk of chronic diseases like heart disease and diabetes. Find an activity you enjoy, whether walking, dancing, or playing a sport, and aim to do it for at least 30 minutes daily.

4. Get Enough Sleep

Sleep is essential for our physical and mental health. It helps our bodies repair and rejuvenate, improves our mood, and boosts our immune system. Aim to get seven to nine hours of sleep per night, and establish a relaxing bedtime routine to help you wind down.

5. Find Ways to Get Extra Steps

I found that getting extra steps in each day was helpful for me to feel healthier. For me, it’s very unlikely that I will take the stairs over the elevator. I bought this walking pad that has changed my life! It is so much easier to make my step goals each day. I set it up in my living room and walk at night while watching tv instead of just sitting on the couch.

Regularly checking in with your accountability partner will make you more likely to stick to your healthy habits, as you’ll feel a sense of responsibility to follow through.

3. Reward Yourself: Rewarding yourself is an effective way to stay motivated and committed to your healthy habits. Celebrate your successes, no matter how small they may be. For example, if you’ve been consistently working out for a week, treat yourself to a new workout outfit or a massage. This positive reinforcement will help you associate healthy habits with positive experiences, making it easier to stick to them in the long run.
